How Can Families Reconnect and Put God at the Center of Their Home?
Lessons from our own childhoods and how God is calling us to show up for the next generation
Looking Back at Our Childhoods
When my husband and I look back on our childhoods, we see two very different stories—but the same truth runs through both: families can unintentionally drift from God, and children can feel disconnected—even when life looks “fine.”
I grew up with comfort, opportunities, and stability—but I didn’t truly learn how to walk in faith.
My husband grew up in a home where emotional, spiritual, and relational guidance were missing.
Even though our experiences were different, one thing was clear: presence, guidance, and God-centered connection make all the difference in a child’s life.
Realizing God’s Call for Our Family
After becoming parents ourselves, we noticed the same patterns in our own family: busy schedules, distractions, and daily life sometimes pulled us away from intentionally connecting with each other and with God.
We realized that God calls families to be present, guiding, and nurturing each other’s hearts. And that means more than just teaching faith—it means living it together, every day.
Have you noticed your own family drifting from intentional connection?
Lessons God Taught Us About Family Connection
Through our experiences, God showed us that small, consistent, faith-centered actions can transform relationships:
Presence matters more than perfection – showing up consistently is more important than doing everything perfectly. There was a period of time that I wasn't present at all as a mother or a wife - and that was detrimental on my family. God doesn't expect you to be perfect, but He wants you to be present.
Faith-centered guidance transforms hearts – modeling a God-centered life teaches children and spouses far more than words alone. Once I turned to God, started to read the bible, things started turning around in my family. It's been over 3 years now - and I'm not stating it's perfect but slowly my family is becoming more intact.
Connection builds resilience – regular, intentional moments of love and guidance strengthen trust and spiritual growth. It must be consistent. You want God to choose you over and over again, right? So does your spouse and your children. When you get the opportunity to connect, no matter how tired you are - keep choosing them.
Take a moment to reflect:
Where is God calling your family to show up for each other today?
How We Started Bringing God Back Into Our Family
We wanted to do more than just recognize the problem—we wanted to actively reconnect our family. Here’s what helped us:
Praying Together Daily
Even 5 minutes makes a difference. We started with short prayers. Since praying has never been a big part of our life, we pray when there is an open door of opportunity. We don't force it. When a lost item is found, when something miraculously is fixed, or when we are in need of something, we take this time to thank God for his assistance or ask for guidance.
Modeling Faith Consistently
We realized our kids watch more than they listen. By showing how we trust God in our daily decisions, struggles, and joys, we began teaching faith through action. There are so many opportunities and our kids watch our reactions and habits. We need to be consistent with our actions by modeling Christ-like behavior at all times. We all fall short at times, but when you do it's important to get back up, shake it off, apologize to your kids if needed and keep the end goal in sight.
Creating Intentional Moments
We use the open windows of opportunity to discuss God’s presence in our lives. I learned the hard way not to go at my kids hard about God or making it feel forced. When the opportunity is right, I pray to God for guidance and ask the Holy Spirt to lead me.
Encouraging Reflection
We started asking simple questions:
When things were going right we would ask "Why do you think this went right for you today?"
When going through trials, we would ask "What do you think God is teaching you?"
Starting Small and Staying Consistent
We didn’t overhaul everything at once. One small faith-centered habit at a time allowed the changes to stick—and showed our kids that God-centered living is practical, not overwhelming.
Practical Takeaways for Your Family
If your family feels disconnected, here are some steps you can take today:
Be present intentionally – put away distractions during family time. Don't ever be "too tired" for your kids. When the window of opportunity is shown by them, drop what you are doing and listen.
Lead by example – let your children see your personal faith and reliance on God.
Add God-centered routines – short devotions, family prayers, or reflections can start to shift your home’s atmosphere.
Create spaces for sharing – ask questions about their feelings, thoughts, and experiences, and listen without rushing.
Celebrate small wins – every intentional moment builds spiritual and relational growth.
A Final Reflection
Bringing God back to the center of your family doesn’t happen overnight. But even small, consistent steps can change the dynamic of your home.
Take a moment to ask yourself:
Where can I show up more intentionally for my spouse or children today?
How can I place God at the center of our family routines?
What one small, faith-centered habit can we start together this week?
God calls families to be present, to guide, and to love intentionally.
When we respond, even small acts of connection and faith can grow into lasting transformation—spiritually, emotionally, and relationally.
Our Mission:
Helping Families Rebuild Connection
That’s why we’ve started something small but intentional: Family Connection Kits.
These kits aren’t about charity—they’re about building habits of faith, connection, and guidance in families.
Each kit helps families create God-centered routines and includes:
A parent-child activity that sparks conversation and connection
A devotional or faith-based book to guide spiritual growth
A journal or sketchbook for children to reflect and process their thoughts
A small token or gift to remind children they are valued and loved
Our hope is that these kits help families reconnect spiritually, emotionally, and relationally, so parents and children experience God’s love together—not just in Sunday school, but at the dinner table, bedtime, and daily life.
Start today. Take one step toward God-centered family connection, and watch Him transform your home, one moment at a time.
